Advanced Polymeric Materials for Clinical Translation
Abstract: Multiple natural, synthetic and hybrid polymers are used for multiple medical applications. Our research focuses on the development of functional biomaterials for solving real clinical problems. We have multidisciplinary team from chemistry, material science, engineering, medicine and biology. We always initial the project with clinical doctors and their clinical questions, and the clinical doctors and/or medical students are involved in the projects from start to the end.
We synthesize all kinds of biomaterials, and polymer-based biomaterials are important parts of our research. We have used microfluidics, 3D printing, electrospinning and many other methods to develop natural or synthetic polymer-based nanoparticles, microparticles, hydrogels, scaffolds, stents, anisotropic groove microstructure etc.
Here we present the examples on how we utilized biocompatible polymers for different types of applications, including targeted cancer drug delivery, cancer immune therapy, scaffold and hydrogel for wound healing and spinal cord regeneration, biomimetic scaffold for bone regeneration, anisotropic groove microstructure for neuro regulation etc. We hope very much that some of our projects will end up with true clinical translational.
