Abstract:

Catalysis by functional polymers themselves, polymer-metal complexes, polymer-protected and gel-immobilized metal nanoparticles is intensively developing subject at the interface between macromolecular chemistry, catalysis, and nanotechnology. Hydrogenation and oxidation reactions of various substrates by metal nanoparticles and enzyme – catalase immobilized or encapsulated within macroporous amphoteric cryogels are considered in this communication. Kinetics and mechanism of catalytic reactions proceeding in mild conditions are discussed. The minimal volume of catalyst, high surface to volume ratio, energy saving and “green chemistry” aspects together with high productivity and low-cost principles are highlighted.
